TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW
This is a 64-team bracket style tournament using the Dynasty League Online baseball simulation game. The teams were selected based on historical records and seeded accordingly. Only teams available for use within the Dynasty League Baseball game were used. Each Major League Baseball franchise is represented within the tournament with at least one team. When teams are represented by more than one offering, efforts were made to make selections from different eras. Efforts were also made to seed teams so different teams from the same franchise would not face one another.
The New York Yankees are the most represented franchise with six teams making the tournament (1927, '39, '61, '77, '98 and 2009). They also represent the top three seeds in the American League ('27,'39,'98). The St. Louis Cardinals are the most represented team in the National League with five teams making the cut (1934, '42, '67, '85, '04). Several teams only have one representative. They are the 1997 Marlins, 1982 Brewers, 2001 Diamondbacks, 2007 Rockies, 1970 Orioles, 2008 Rays, 1993 Blue Jays, 1977 Royals, 1970 Twins, 2011 Rangers and the 2001 Mariners. Of those eleven franchises, six are the most recent MLB expansion teams. Unfortunately for Baltimore, the only team worthy within the Dynasty League database was their 1970 squad. The good news is that they garnered a #3 seed in the American League Earl Weaver bracket.
Gameplay will proceed with the first two rounds, as well as the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight rounds being a best of five series. The Final Four series' will be a best of seven format. The higher seeded team in each series will be the home team. The DH will only be used for teams that actually used the DH, and then only when they are at home. So the 1927 Yankees will not use the DH even though they are seeded in the American League, but the 1998 Yankees will employ the extra hitter when they play their home games. The individual series' will be played randomly until each round is complete.
